Andrew Hewitt has earned the title of “Australia’s most inspirational drummer” from his drumming peers both locally and overseas through the tireless work he has done to prove that anything is possible. For those who are unaware of Andrew, he was born with Cerebral Palsy which affects movement in his arms and legs, and he uses a wheelchair to get around. However this hasn’t stopped Andrew from having a successful career as a drummer spanning more than 20 years.

In March 2013, Andrew went to the global drum education and motivational wizard Dom Famularo’s studio in New York and met with Dom, Mike and David Segal. While there it was discussed how they wanted to change the world’s views toward musicians with a disability, help create opportunities and give everyone a fair go. After all, music is for everybody. During that meeting, Can-Do Musos was born.

After a lot of support and emails back and forth between Dom, Mike and David Segal, it has been announced that Andrew Hewitt and his Can-Do Musos team will open The NAMM Show 2017 on the Grand Plaza Center Stage on Thursday the 19th January 2017 at 11am in Anaheim California. (The National Association of Music Merchants NAMM Show is the largest trade show for musical merchants and manufacturers in the world).

This is a first for any Australian Drummer!

However, this wonderful opportunity does come with many challenges logistically and financially for Andrew and his tower of strength and wife Jen. This is where the wider musical community can help make this come to life!

If you are not familiar with Andrew's story - make yourself a coffee and take five minutes to watch Andrew's short film which premiered at the 2016 Focus on Ability Short Film Festival "Stop.... Watch... Listen Never Assume".

Here is what some of our friends say about Andrew:

"I believe in Candomusos!!! Each member is a dedicated, passionate musician. I support them and now need funds to further get the Candomusos message out! Spread the word and let's make a difference together!" Dom Famularo Drumming's Global Ambassador

"I first met Andrew in Sydney at Drumscene Live in 2006. I felt his positive energy and excitement for life, music and drumming right away. We had the pleasure to feature Andrew at 'Australia's Ultimate Drummer's Weekend 2009'. His performance was unique and inspirational. Huge congrats for all your great achievements and wonderful work!" Frank Corniola Director - Drumscene / Drumtek / Muscitek

"Andrew is a hard working and most inspiring drummer i know, that has been pushing the boundaries to let the world know about Can Do Muso's and giving great musicians in the world with disabilities a platform to be heard and see them as musicians and not their disability, so support a great cause so we can see others shine and bringing the world stage into one". Pino Bertolini Drum Talk Radio.
