After Tropical Cyclone Debbie crossed the coast in the Whitsundays Region of Queensland in late March, the weather system travelled south, causing widespread damage throughout Queensland, Northern NSW and New Zealand.
One week after the devastating flooding that occurred in Lismore, we delivered a trailer load of household goods we had collected from friends across Brisbane. The scale of damage and loss in Lismore is incredible, and Lismore is one of dozens of areas severely impacted by this event. We delivered a fridge to a resident of Lismore, who was overwhelmed by the generosity provided to him by the army of volunteers who have descended upon the area to assist.
Having spoken to many of the community recovery assistants, there appeared to be a desperate lack of fridges. Without a fridge, residents are unable to store perishable food, affecting diet, wasting time purchasing and preparing food, and preventing the return to a normal daily routine. This campaign aims to raise at least $5,000 to purchase second hand and new fridges to assist a handful of families on their long journey to get their lives back to normal as quickly as possible.
