Ever since successfully opening and running a bar and restaurant in the Algarve Portugal 15 years ago I have harboured dreams of opening a full-on Retro Fun Bar and I have been working towards this since my arrival in Australia 11 years ago.
I know heaps of people of my generation who still love their music and would love to go out for the evening for fun and dancing but would not be seen dead in today's youngster's clubs. Not to mention the amount of young adults who would embrace the “dress up and go somewhere different” mentality, especially for special dates in their lives.
This project has now become my sole, burning goal in life.
I could probably get it up and running right now but, with my limited funding, it would not have the appeal that I am seeking, nor the “wow” factor needed to make it a “cool” place where people really want to be and that is totally different to the other bars in the area. This campaign is aimed squarely at taking the bar to those heights.
I envisage a seventies night-club style retro fit out to the bar area and a full-on seventies disco dance floor area with full lighting rig and kicking sound system where both patrons of my era and youngsters wanting to experience “real” dance music (played by human beings on instruments!) can boogie the night away! (and discover what most of their modern music sounded like originally!!)
We shall have theme nights through the week (New Romantics, Glam Rock, Soul, Karaoke etc) and, of course, an authentic weekend Disco Night! Patrons will be encouraged to dress accordingly for these theme nights (as the staff will be!) and there will be free drinks and prizes for the best!
Weekend daytime will be to “chill out” music and I really also fancy a Blues afternoon!
We can also cater for Punk, Electro, Pop and all things retro! - The playlists are ready to go.
The bar will be run on a similar basis to a club, with a dress and behaviour code strictly enforced. People will come to relax in a safe and fun atmosphere!
We have bold and pro-active marketing plans including flyers in resorts, website, Facebook page and a regular ride round the town on a period “modded” Lambretta advertising the bar!
As mentioned above, the only way to success for the project is for patrons to walk in, go “WOW!” at the look and feel of the place and enjoy their experience so much that they cannot wait to return and love to recommend us to their family and friends.
To get to that point of fit out obviously requires a major outlay.
Hence this campaign.
Please see the “Rewards” section for details of the full benefits of your pledge.
Our start up location is Surfers Paradise, a pretty obvious choice, but I see more ROCKITs in Sydney, Melbourne and other major tourist areas in the not too distant future.
Hope to see you at ROCKIT very soon!!
